Thank you very much for this post.
Unfortunately, as seen on the CTV main news broadcast this evening, the focus of the platform release will be a comment made by Harper during the release when he said that it was a “good opportunity for Canadians to buy stock.”. Just like many stock analysts have been are saying for some days now.
Dion says that the comment was….. well, I can’t remember what it was that he said but he was indignant and repulsed.
    So was Jack Layton.
Both agreed that it was an uncaring remark.
Elizabeth May is expected to chime in tomrrow once her train arrives in Nova Scotia.
Graham Richardson, reporting from the event, said that the platform was a ploy that could go either way. It could either gain or lose support for Harper and the Conservatives.
Well, I certainly don’t know which way it’s going to go because they didn’t tell me what it was about!
Or at least I didn’t know until you posted it.
CTV Late Night News had not a mention of any of the economic stimulus in this tough economic times.
CTV Late Night News had not a mention of tax benefits.
CTV Late Night News had not a mention of any other single plank of the Conservatives platform.
They chose to highlight a remark that was simply echoing the many economists out there who are telling people that this is a good time to buy stocks.
I myself am not worried about my stock portfolio, such as it is, because I know (or at least I expect) my broker (meaning the huge corporation to which my employer subscribes) to be doing the right thing and I will eventually come out okay in the end. Maybe I’m too either too rich or too much of an Optimist but that’s what I am and believe me, I’ve been an Optimist all of my life.
If I end up living in a box on the street then so be it. Many people dream of living in a box on the street.
But I don’t know what the hell is going on because the TV station that I usually rely on to provide thoughtful reporting and unbiased opinions has so seriously failed me.
Where do I turn to for fair and unbalanced reporting?????????

Althought I was invited to Stephen Harpers campaign stop at Hamilton Airport, I was unable to attend, I was doing respite care work, but judging by the front page story in my local daily paper, it was a packed house with all the area's conservative candidates in attendance. Our candidate on Hamilton Mountain Terry Anderson has lots of experience at the council chamber when he was a local councillor for many, many years when Hamilton chugging along nicely. If election sign are any indication, Terry Anderson has the upper hand, name regognition non-withstanding. Hamilton needs to have someone at the cabinet table to help us survive these world economic storms. Harper is the steady hand at the wheel we all need to navigate us through the economic storms ahead.

I read the whole thing and have this to say: What's not to like? Compared to the platforms of others out there pleading for my vote this document is a breath of fresh air. I sincerely hope that people actually take the time to study this platform seriously before they vote.

It would have been great if you'd released this platform before the end of the campaign.

Many, many others feel that way despite what some polls may say, and will show it at the ballot box.

Could you post the NDP and Libral Platforms to compare it with?

When all is said and done – Emerging from the crowd will be the man who can most be trusted to lead the way with regards to the economy – PM Harper. although it may take awhile for citizens to come onboard, it is common fact that the undecided (usually) vote with commons sense instincts and that will be the way to advance.
Hair-braind schemes such as the libs and dippers advocate are exactly that “hair-brained” and will damage our economy even more. So then tell me, how much are you willing to pay out in more taxes and associated items that are the mainstay of our daily lives. More is not better as some despots suggest, but less taxes are certainly a positive benifit in anyone's books. Some individuals agree with a new ” tax”, however, until you start to empty your wallet or realize your getting short changed, I believe you will change your mind “speed-of-light”.
    ARJAY.
