Don’t you find it a touch ironic that the most liberal presidential candidate in US history, could never win the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada because he would be too right wing. Then of course, there’s the spectacle of a Canadian political party cheering on another party in the US that will rip up every trade deal we have with the US and put new trade barriers up (NAFTA, softwood, beef, steel, autos, etc.). Exactly whose side are the Liberals on? I would love to have video of Liberal MPs cheering as the Carl Levin & Kent Conrad gang get a supermajority. Canada is in for a real rough time on US trade. That’s hardly something to be cheering about.

    How silly is this stuff?
Republicans are much farther to the right than our Conservatives and the Democrats are farther to the right than our Liberals. Hmmm… that must mean our Conservatives are somewhat the same or a little farther to the left than the Democrats since they have veered to the center lately. Confused yet? Does anybody else see the futility of comparing parties south of the border with ours or am I out to lunch? I voted Conservative but would really like to see Obama have a shot at the presidency. What does that mean? NOTHING! All this Republican=Canadian Conservative or Democrat=Canadian Liberal talk is just too tedious and stupid for words. Well, that's my 2 cents anyway.

It is completely inappropriate for a Canadian federal party to take sides in a foreign election. Completely inappropriate. I’m surprised it’s even legal.

It’s also curious that they’d cheer on the Democrats when the Liberals just criticized Democrat policies when they were spoken by Liberal opponents in our own 2008 election.

Stephen, you should contact someone in the Liberal party about this – it’s simply not appropriate, and wouldn’t Stephane Dion agree?

“Imagine if the Conservative Party sent out an invite for a party to celebrate the Republicans!”

We do, we just don't need to send out invitations.

its very heartening to see our American brethern elect a liberal democratic government that will run all branches of the federal apparatus in the US. This will help clean up the economy and remind the Canadians who voted for Harper there is a much better way. Dumb populist economics are doomed to failure.

Americans simply want to get rid of anything resembling George Bush and ideological conservatism. That day will be coming here also as we experience an economic meltdown that would not necessarily have happened if the cons had kept some money in the piggy bank.

    I didn't say they did… Who did?

Please don’t speak to me of credibility when you use terms like Libranos and Trudeaupian legacy. You have none.

This is a stupid argument. You compare an election party to blindly following the policies of the Bush government and say that this advertisement is proof that the Liberal Party wants to be a ‘proxy’ of the Democratic Party. You’re right that many would use a similar celebration by the CPC as proof of the Bush/Harper love affair. And you would lose your mind and call anyone who did every name in the book. That makes you (and Stephen) a hypocrite.

Only the Liberals could be dumb enough to endorse the candidate and party who will a) stop importing oil from Canada, and b) close the border to our exports as the most protectionist regime in recent memory.

Between the galactacly stupid Green Shift tax grab, and now encouraging closing the doors to our largest source of export income with our largest trading partner, the Liberals seem more determined than ever to ruin the Canadian economy in the midst of a global economic slowdown. Combined with the stifling effect an Obama win would have on the U.S. economy itself, with his grand plans for massive spending, punishing success, and “redistributing wealth” (screwing employers), the candidate and party the Liberals have foolishly endorsed would almost certainly force Canada into a recession we don't deserve, would drive jobs out of Canada and discourage new business investment in Canada because our biggest customer would no longer be shopping here.

It wasn't just the leader who lost the Liberals the election. The whole gang obviously doesn't get it. They do not deserve the responsibility of government with such self-serving, narrow minded policies and decisions.

Hopefully Americans will come to their senses in the last week of the campaign and wisely vote McCain. Obama the leftist idealogue frightens the hell out of me, and he should frighten the hell out of all hard-working Americans. Like Pierre Trudeau, he will do 100 years of damage if he gets in.

Obama has used some of Harpers positions and as they are ideologically similar we should endorse them. When Castro has an election let the Libbies vote for Turdo's friend.

An informative blog! Yeah, imagine that. Imagine if Conservatives actually stood up and said what they believe and who they support rather than doing it behind closed doors so no one will find out…

What an excellent blog! Um, considering that the Libs’ battle cry includes “Bush-Harper”, it is somewhat disconcerting that they are taking on a new battle cry: “Obama-Dion”. Did they not criticize Harper for being too “American”? Are these folks that arrogant that they think we Canadians won’t make the comparison?
