…my adivce for all parties: Canada is a commodity country. Materials science is what commodities will turn into. So bolstering things like Edmonton's Nanotech lab, Quebec's aluminum and Raymor metal coatings hub, and Vancouver's CNT minihub, ensures sustainability. Gold is traded inversely to other industrial metals, so it might make sense to offer a tax bonus to gold miners and a natural hedge. Maybe some American chemical conglomerates will be ripe for takeover soon?

East, once you get beyond the spin (I have Chomsky and Zinn to thank for deprogramming me) you realize Conservative spend money too. They spend it all on corporations and income taxes. Income tax cuts are good (employment intensive in a recession) only at the lower-mid end. Corporate tax cuts are just for the rich, a no no in turbulence. Basically every other party wants oil to pay some of their externailities. Conservatives are alone here in accepting the eminence of big oil. Taxpayers outside of AB better not be on the hook for one penny of the $150B it will cost to clean up 3 tailing ponds. AB isn't even making oil pay 1/100th this cost in centifuge R+D facilities (I think this figure is about $3M). AB has a monopoly with hotels and is giving oil a free pass every time they land on Boardwalk. Why?!

The “plagairism” angle to this story was nothing more than a trojan horse… a means to inject the terms “BUSH” and “IRAQ” into the debate. That was proven by a CBC News anchor I saw interviewing a Liberal when she said (paraphrasing), “With the plagiarism aspect of this story having been settled, this still brings up the issue of Iraq and Harper's support for the war into the debate, doesn't it?”

This is the Liberals and MSMs last hope to turn things around. Ain't gonna happen.

James Bowie: Stephen Harper's speech writer owned up to the plagiarism and he apologized for it. Stephen Harper was not the PM at the time and was unaware of the plagiarism when he delivered his speech.

This is digging at the extreme bottom of the barrel, Mr. Bowie. Bob Rae is showing his lack of either principle or class by bringing up this five-year-old issue. With the acknowledgement and apology this case was closed five years ago.

It's obvious, however, why it's been dug up, dusted off, and spread throughout the MSM: an extremely desperate Liberal Party. Pathetic.

Anybody can spend great amounts of money. It takes intelligence to spend it wisely. I would hazard a guess that the Conservatives can do more good with 8B than the Greens can with 172B and certainly much more than the Liberals could do with any given amount of money. At least with the Conservatives, the money does not accidentally take a detour like…I don't know…uh…Ad Scam.

Two Ottawa City Councillors suggest the Liberals Green Shift plan would cost Ottawa taxpayers at least an additional $3.5 million.

In a letter to Liberal leader Stephane Dion, Doug Thompson and Glenn Brooks say preliminary research into the impact of a carbon tax on Ottawa's operating budget has "alarming results."

They claim the Liberals carbon tax would increase OC Transpo's diesel fuel bill by $2.74 million, and Ottawa's fleet vehicle budget by $791-thousand.

Thompson and Brooks ask Dion if he is prepared to amend the tax to mitigate the new costs that the Green Shift plan will impose on Ottawa's "already tight budget."
