I’m going to the Republican National Convention

I’ve been enjoying this week’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention on CNN (the only network anchoring coverage from the floor). Whether you agree with Democrats or not, you must admit that they’re putting on a great show and the stars of the party have woven some fantastic speeches together.

Therefore, I’m very excited to be headed to Minneapolis St. Paul on Sunday to attend the full week of the Republican National Convention.

I’m intending to blog the convention top-to-bottom and to bring you guys the behind-the-camera perspective of the greatest political stage show on Earth (a label that could apply to the RNC or DNC though Obama’s address in Mile-High Stadium to about 80,000 might raise the bar well above terra firma (or at least mare supra)for the GOP. Wi-fi has been intermittant to non-existant at the Pepsi Center according to some reports, so hopefully the RNC will have it humming along through the convention.

If any other folks (observers or reporters) are heading down to the RNC from Canada or if you’re a delegate/blogger from the US, I’d love to hear from you. I’ll be available via Blackberry during the convention and even if you aren’t able to make it, I’d be happy to share my thoughts about the goings-on and nomination of John McCain as the Republican nominee for President of the US.

    Have a good time!

Have fun. I'll tune in again when you return to Canadian politics.

I'll still cover Canadian politics when there are developments. I hope they don't happen when I'm gone!

Enjoy the convention. US politics is awesome to be a part of. Make sure you swing by the Ron Paul “rally for the Republic” in the same city at some point.

Stephen, you should try to get on FoxNews. It would be amazing to see you on that network. I'm sure if you ask someone there you could get some air time. You gotta admit one thing though. Don't you find it disturbing that the Canadian media is following the American conventions for 3 hours a day, yet cnnot have any debates about our own election. Anyways, try to get on FoxNews. You must be pumped up to be able to mingle with the likes of Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Greta, Brit, and all the other FoxNews anchors. Take some pictures please and post them ASAP. Enjoy the wonderful experience.

Stephen, as a polite note, I have been watching the DNC on Fox cable news, on the convention site 24/7 broadcasting with over 2500 people to handle the task. This channel has always the most complete and fair and balanced coverage. Try it.

I tried watching some foxnews coverage of the DNC. Not as detailed. I'm sure they'll go all out for the RNC to rebalance the subpar job they're doing at the DNC (besides, more people will be watching FNC for the RNC)

Hoping to see the same amount of coverage on Canadian networks afforded Obamarama.

    Enjoy the convention Stephen.

    Thanks.

Lucky you! Have a GR-8 time.

I'll be tuning in, as American politics are important to Canadians. And it's a much better “watch” than Canadian politics: more hoopla, more excitetment, more commentary, and more varied commentary from their MSM… AND the politicos' wives are better dressed… ;-)

    Hey! Something for everyone!

Hey Stephen, I'm watching the Larry King show and Democrat commentator Paul Begala is bashing John McCain's choice for his VP, Alaska Gov. Palin.

    His argument?
Begala argued parents wouldn't entrust their children in the event of their death to people they met only once, so how can McCain entrust the fate of 300 million Americans in the event of McCain's death if he were to become President and die in office? How's that for a Democrat's paternalism?

If you happen to run into Begala at the Republican convention, tell him for me he's a complete idiot.

I also find it hilarious that Larry King, who's 3 years older than McCain and whose nickname is probably The Stiff, was pointing constantly to McCain's age and the possibility of his dying in office.
It should make Americans feel warm and fuzzy that Democrats are so solicitous about the possibility of McCain dropping dead at any moment … ;-)

yeah, well I got your McCain riiiiiight here-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEtZlR3zp4c

A big chunk of that party is a mess.
Hopefully a good fellow like Ron Paul may manage to straighten it out someday.
    But who knows.

Enjoy the convention. I hope their speeches offer more policy talk then the DNC did. Regardless , I'd still be voting for Obama if I was living there. He's just more modern and stable. And that accounts for a lot especially when both parties and the country as a whole feels so dated. *Shudder*

“yeah, well I got your McCain riiiiiight here …”

“My” McCain? The only McCain that is mine is some frozen spuds and some orange juice in my fridge.

But I'm glad to hear you'd be voting for Obama. It's about time that “progressives” were cured of their pathological hatred of Americans.

Me, I don't long to exercise my vote anywhere else – I'm proud to cast it right here, thank you very much.
